Continuum and Lattice Coulomb - Gauge Hamiltonian ∗
We review the canonical quantization of continuum Yang-Mills theory, and derive the continuum Coulomb-gauge Hamiltonian by a simplification of the ChristLee method. We then analogously derive, by a simple and elementary method, the lattice Coulomb-gauge Hamiltonian in the minimal Coulomb gauge (and in other Coulomb gauges) from the known Kogut-Susskind Hamiltonian. Lectures given at the NATO AS...
متن کاملHamiltonian approach to Coulomb gauge Yang-Mills Theory
The vacuum wave functional of Coulomb gauge Yang-Mills theory is determined within the vari-ational principle and used to calculate various Green functions and observables. The results show that heavy quarks are confined by a linearly rising potential and gluons cannot propagate over large distances. The 't Hooft loop shows a perimeter law and thus also indicates confinement.
متن کاملHamiltonian approach to Yang-Mills theory in Coulomb gauge
Recent results obtained within the Hamiltonian approach to continuum Yang-Mills theory in Coulomb gauge are reviewed. INTRODUCTION There have been many attempts in the past to solve the Yang-Mills Schrödinger equation using gauge invariant wave functionals. Unfortunately, all these approaches have not been blessed with much success2. The reason is that it is extremely difficult to work with gau...
متن کاملEnhancing sensitivity in quantum metrology by Hamiltonian extensions
A well-studied scenario in quantum parameter estimation theory arises when the parameter to be estimated is imprinted on the initial state by a Hamiltonian of the form θG. For such “phase shift Hamiltonians” it has been shown that one cannot improve the channel quantum Fisher information by adding ancillas and letting the system interact with them. Here we investigate the general case, where th...
متن کاملCompeting interactions in two dimensional Coulomb systems: surface charge heterogeneities in coassembled cationic-anionic incompatible mixtures.
A binary mixture of oppositely charged components confined to a plane such as cationic and anionic lipid bilayers may exhibit local segregation. The relative strengths of the net short range interactions, which favors macroscopic segregation, and the long range electrostatic interactions, which favors mixing, determine the length scale of the finite size or microphase segregation. The free ener...
